Spinney Cross is in Kingsdown, a small hamlet some three miles from the cosmopolitan city of Bath, perched on the side of the beautiful Box valley.

Deer are known to roam the garden and pheasants strut the lawn. Wake up, draw your curtains to see the sunlit valley slopes and the Georgian city of Bath in the distance framed by majestic beech trees.

There are opulent double bedrooms each with it’s own luxury bathroom.

French windows opening onto the terrace provide private access.

Enjoy the evening sun with a bottle of wine, taking in sunsets and scenery that will stay with you forever

Enjoy the breakfast of your choice, overlooking the Box valley, served by your hostess, the original "dot.com"! Dorothy Comley.

Try our smoked salmon and scrambled eggs - it's a speciality of the house. In winter, start your day with a porringer of porridge.

If it's business or pleasure that brings you to the West Country, you can relax and enjoy the Spinney Cross experience.

There is much to do in the area: a stone's throw away is Kingsdown Golf Club, with it's championship course (taxing but not disheartening).

There are acres and acres of woodlands to be explored on foot or you may prefer to drive to Westonbirt Arboretum, well know for its world wide variety of trees and in autumn, for its floodlit walks.

The city of Bath, with the river Avon winding its way through the centre is world famous for its Roman Baths and Georgian architecture, with a huge choice of restaurants of distinction.

One hour from Stonehenge and the Cotswolds, thirty minutes from Badminton and it’s horse trials and only two hours by road or 90 minutes by main line rail link from the centre of London.

Directions

From the M4 exit at junction 18 onto the A46. Go approx 8 miles (13km) to the A4. Continue towards Chippenham and Bradford-on-Avon on the dual-carriageway to the roundabout at the end.

Turn right towards Bradford-on-Avon on the A363. Go under the railway bridge and turn immediately left into Bathford. (In front of the Crown Pub.) Go up hill for 1.5 miles (2km) as far as the Swan Pub.

Just past the “Swan” turn left into Lower Kingsdown Road, down a short hill and bear right (ignore about the 'Road Closed' sign!). Continue on for 200 yards (approx) until you see a double garage on the right. On the left opposite the garages bear off left (do not go straight on) where the road drops away. Spinney Cross is at the end of the drive.

From London:  you can turn off the M4 at Junction 17 and come via Chippenham, but although shorter in distance than exiting at Junction 18 it is more complicated.

Leave the M4 at Junction 17 (Chippenham), taking the A350 towards Chippenham. Turn right at first large roundabout (approx 1.5 miles)

Go straight on at the next small roundabout and follow the ring road around Chippenham across a further 3 roundabouts always following signs to Bath. At the final roundabout turn right. You are now on the A4 going towards Bath.

Go approx 1 mile to a set of traffic lights. Straight across and go through Pickwick. Across 2 mini roundabouts. Turn left onto B3109 signposted to Bradford-on-Avon. Follow the road across country for approx 2.5 miles until you come to a junction of five roads with traffic lights. Go diagonally to the right signposted Kingsdown. Go on for 2 miles and past the golf course until you come to The Swan Pub on the right.

Turn right just before the Swan (there is a red telephone box on the corner) into Lower Kingsdown Road, down a short hill and bear right (ignore the 'Road Closed' sign!). Continue on for 200 yards (approx) until you see a double garage on the right. On the left opposite the garages bear off left (do not go straight on) where the road drops away. Spinney Cross is at the end of the drive.

If you come by taxi, make sure you have these directions. Most will be unable to find us unless you do. A typical one-way cost from Bath Railway Station is about £15.
