The Royal first opened as a hotel in 1846 and has been owned by the present owners since 1995. During this time there has been an ongoing programme of renovation and improvements to ensure that this lovely property, which was designed by Brunel, is well maintained and provides attractive facilities for our many guests.
During 2008 we have carried out a redecoration and refurbishment of all the bedrooms and bathrooms and created an elegant entrance foyer and stylish new bar.
We have an excellent reputation for food and a friendly, relaxing atmosphere. The Royal is totally non-smoking.
Bedrooms:
31 en suite bedrooms, all recently redecorated in a traditional style in keeping with the hotel, which adds to the character and attraction of staying at The Royal. Merino wool blankets, goose feather and down pillows, covered with Egyptian cotton, together with high quality beds, will ensure a good night’s sleep.
All bedrooms are non-smoking.
Restaurant:
Our resident General Manager, Mike MacDermid, is fully involved in the day-to-day running of the hotel and this personal attention extends to the restaurant, which has an enviable reputation for excellent food, specialising in "great steaks" using only mature British beef, and including grilled chicken, fish, vegetarian dishes and a daily choice of chef's specials.
At lunch there is an excellent two course fixed price menu with a wide choice of dishes for only £9.95 or you can simply choose individually priced dishes from the a la carte.
Whether you select a fixed meal or eat a la carte, you will enjoy the same high quality of food and service in a friendly and very attractive restaurant, which is fully air-conditioned. Most dishes are freshly cooked to order to ensure that we maintain maximum quality.

15 miles from Bristol airport and 8 miles from the M4 (Junction 18) motorway.
Bath is only 1½ hours by rail from both London and Birmingham , and we are located close by the railway and bus stations, making "getting to us" very easy.
There are a number of large, relatively inexpensive car parks within 50 yards of the Royal.
